I know I don’t post much slice of life stuff, but I’m feeling mellow and want to post since I was so quiet last week.
I’ve been watching more movies with Toady lately. I go through seasons when it comes to movies. I can always be counted on to watch a Disney/Pixar film, but anything else depends on my mood, and my mood is usually anti-movie. This is because we have so many of the blasted things, I feel like they have overrun our apartment and occasionally steal my husband from me. So I don’t like them often. But Toady loves them so much I have relented in my stance. Besides, I need an excuse to eat popcorn.
So last weekend we watched Old Yeller…. Toady loves it. I’m kind of MEH on it. It’s sad, I guess, if you’re a kid, but I’m just like, well yah, that happens. I dunno. I suppose I am not the target audience? (Young and dog loving?) Then we watched Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai the next night, which was great. I love Kurosawa. His use of pauses and subtext rock. Granted, we were out of popcorn all weekend.
Then this weekend Toady insisted I watch The Usual Suspects because the writing is great. The writing IS great. Brilliant movie! And because we had just eaten a big dinner, we didn’t have popcorn for this one either. I’m sensing a theme. So much for my popcorn excuse.
Also this weekend was Father’s Day. This is a holiday I never cared about because my dad died when I was six, so it was a moot point. Now I love Toady’s dad so it’s fun. Also, my BIL is a first-year dad, so that’s cool. For dinner, MIL made this peach pepper salsa from Cooking Light. It is delicious. She sent me home with a tub, mwaha! I am going to put it on/in everything this week.
Also this week, The Query Wars are beginning. I got my crits back, I reworked the beginning based on feedback. (I am still not happy with it, though.) Now I am line editing and doing final clean-up, and then…. submission! I’m excited. I won’t be talking about it, either, so this is the only warning you’re getting that it’s even happening, until I have news to report, if any.
I am line-editing backward because I am so tired of looking at the mss. This keeps it fresh somehow. And I don’t have to think about the crappy beginning until I get there, which is great because everything else will be done and ready to go, so I can focus on making those first 50p shine. I know I need to add in a beat to one scene. I got so frustrated I didn’t finish rewriting it. I know what happens in it, I just stopped. So I will fix that when I get there. I also need to write a synopsis. So hopefully at the end of the week I’ll be subbing, if not first thing next week. Yay!
